Workplace Investigations

The university recognizes that all employees should work in an environment that is psychologically safe, healthy and respectful, and that is free from harassment, discrimination and bullying. The university is committed to addressing conflict in the work environment in a fair, timely and respectful way — although, not every issue will necessitate a formal investigation.

In general, it is best to raise workplace issues or concerns with your manager or colleague prior to filing a formal complaint.

The workplace investigation process often depends on the nature of the issue, the Respondent’s employment category (MaPS, AUPE, TUCFA, GSA etc) and the applicable University of Calgary governance document.

  • For general guidance or to file a complaint, contact your Faculty/Unit assigned HR Partner
  • AUPE staff members may contact their Member Services Officer for general guidance, to file a complaint and/or to file a grievance
  • For issues involving workplace violence, and/or safety issues, contact Campus Security or your Faculty/Unit assigned HR Partner
  • For general guidance or to file a complaint regarding Academic Staff Members or Appointees, Contractors, Volunteers, or Postdoctoral Scholars, contact the Office of Diversity, Equity and Protected Disclosure
